Hi All.
As some of you may already be using a low cost JTAG (preferrable ethernet or usb connected) could you advise me of your preferred device make/model & approx cost.
Are happy with your device - if not, why not. Your input would be most valuable to us in making an informed decision. so please feel free to be verbose.
Has anyone ever used a DNP9200 module as an ethernet version of an Intelligent JTAG device? If so, would you/they be willing to share h/w and s/w setup?
The Device we would most likely use, needs to be very good at handling GDB remote debugging sessions both at the kernel & applications level.
I have several of the usb type JTAG ARM7 units but of course I don't know if they would be able to handle AT91RM9200's - probably not (be interesting to know what is the main disability to using same if it did work) - so we won't waste time trying that unless someone else has had success doing so.
Why low cost - we are all students mostly.
Thanks for your time. _________________ Cheers. Grahame |

In 2005 a diploma thesis was provided for an "Open on-chip debugger" by Dominic Rath. He uses an FTDI chip and some passive components as far as I remember. see

I have not tried it, because of the following. First of all the SSV'S JTAG IF was published not so long ago and second the major question is why. If you run a Linux on your ARM and have it connected to your development machine for applications GDB with a remote debug front-end should be sufficiant. Only at start-up (bootloader) I would expect a need / necessity to have a JTAG Ice.
